Every single day following October 7th has been immensely painful for the global Jewish community.  We are heartbroken and concerned for all those whose lives are impacted by the current violence in Israel.

The painting depicted of the Magen David was painted by a dear friend and brilliant artist Lilly Weisz. It was her desire to raise money for Israel through her artwork. She has given the great privilege of allowing us to put her  work on this beautiful acrylic block depicting the prayer for the well being of our soldiers.

This prayer was established by the first Chief Military Rabbi, Aluf Shlomo Goren, in the early days of the state. In some communities, the prayer is recited after the Torah reading, following the blessing for the sick (Mi Sheberach L'Cholim), and adjacent to the prayer for the well-being of the country (Minhag Ashkenazim). In other communities, the prayer is recited at the opening of the Ark (Minhag Sephardim).

Lately I have been saying this prayer when I light candles Friday night. It gives me great strength  to know that I can say a prayer for Israeli soldiers, including many of my cousins, when I bring in the Shabbat & invite the Shechina (the radiance of Hashem) into my home.
