The infinite nature of this 2-piece slip-cast stoneware Seder Plate reminds us of the circle of life, a principle central to the practice of observing Passover. When used together, the two distinctive pieces of this set manifest the order in which Seder rituals are observed, with the upper loop framing the charger’s embossed “Pesach” text in a subtle Star of David frame. When used separately, the glazed upper becomes a functional centerpiece in any dinner table expression.

Jews across the world celebrate Passover in different ways, but the Seder plate might be one thread they have in common. In Hebrew “seder” means order, and it is the items on each plate that command the sequence of this Passover ritual, evoking the bitterness of slavery suffered by the Jewish people, while celebrating the bliss of subsequent freedom and recognizing all those who are still oppressed in the present day.

Although the foods found on each Seder plate is yet another tradition that varies by household, each of the six items represents a piece of the whole Passover story: the bitterness of slavery, the mortar used by Jews in Egypt, the Pesach sacrifice, the hope of springtime, and the circle of life.
